'L.A. Times' Staffers Informed of Slated Cuts
by Joe Strupp - Editor and Publisher
Los Angeles Times Editor Russ Stanton today began informing most of the 150 newsroom employees who are slated for layoffs at the paper, according to a memo to staff posted on the paper's Web site.

The memo comes the same day that the Times announced Publisher David Hiller had resigned, but makes no mention of that change.

"The days and weeks ahead will be difficult ones, filled with pain, anger and sadness. All of us need to respect the feelings of those who are leaving us, and the editors who are being asked to handle duties they did not seek," the memo says, in part. "As I've said before, I deeply regret that these cost-saving moves will result in the loss of work for the many people who have served this company well."
